3/3 West Lafayette Individuals @ Purdue University


The boys and girls kicked off the competitive season in Track and Field this past weekend at Purdue, facing off against nearly 30 teams from Indiana and Illinois. And while everyone did a great job, several Brickies turned in outstanding performances. On the Senior end, Zac Randall and Joey Curtis placed 3rd and 4th out of 70 in the 55m. The boys followed that up with a 2nd (Zac) and 4th (Joey) in the 200m. 



Another Senior turing in great times was Chad Brooks. He brought home first in the 800m beating the nearest competitor by 2 seconds. Steven Viator and John Petroskey showed that underclassmen can hold their own too. Steven finished 4th in the 400m , and John placed 3rd in the 1600 with a personal best time of 4:39. Distance runner Collin Allen placed 6th in the 1600m, and Alex Cordova turned in a strong performance of 10:08.46 in 3200m. In the field events Matt Stewart and Nick Stack earned runner-up honors in the high jump and pole vault. Both athletes rank among the states best and qualified for indoor state.



But it wasn’t just the boys out there, the girls also turned in some impressive times and wins. Mindy Whidden captured 1st place in the 400m and 4th in the 200m, in both events Mindy ran among the states top times. Kara Cooke placed 1st in the high jump in 5’4”, earning her a trip to indoor state. Currently Kara is ranked second in the state. Gracie Roach placed 5th in the high jump 4’10” and Caitlin Trezak got 4th in the 400m, earning them both a spot among the states best as well.

With these great finishes the boys are currently ranked among the states top times and have qualified for indoor state on March 17.
